Dodgers and Giants need to make this one trade for someone no one is talking about originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants making a trade doesn't happen a whole lot, but there's reason to believe that at this year's deadline, with the Giants expected to be sellers, the two sides could get involved in a potential deal.
The Dodgers don't need a whole lot, but the Giants have multiple players who could be of value to them, especially as Los Angeles looks to go back-to-back-to-back. The Giants might not want to help out the Dodgers, but no matter what, the idea here is to get the best possible return, and with the Dodgers having an above-average farm system, there's a lot to like about potential trades.
While the Dodgers don't need much, that isn't to say they wouldn't welcome someone like Luis Arraez, who could play the infield and really swing it at a high level for them. That was recently brought up as a potential option, along with other teams.
“By the time the deadline rolls around, that deal will have about $4MM left to be paid out. That’s still a notable amount of money for a club to take on midseason. If the Giants are willing to absorb some of that, they could improve the prospect package they receive in return.
“Contenders such as the Rays, Dodgers, Rangers, Reds, Orioles and others have some current questions at second base and could be interested. Some clubs might also just want the bat and could acquire Arraez to play first base or serve as a designated hitter,” MLB Trade Rumors wrote.
Arraez is a tough player to evaluate in the sense that he does not slug a whole lot. We all know that he's going to get on base at a very high level, and he puts the ball in play at a ridiculously high level. Being able to put the ball in play come October is very important.
