Well here’s my miracle list of Cardinal Selections. It requires fortune smile on the Cards and that the Cards are smart enough to take advantage.
Round 1 Terrell Suggs For once the Cards do the smart thing. He may never be a Pro Bowl player, but he will pressure the quarterback and that alone will improve the defense.
Round 2 Dewayne White He’s the second best Dewayne on the board. I’m not worried about Suggs. I just want two real defensive ends.
Round 3 Anquan Boldin Easily the most underrated receiver of the day one group. He’s not a burner, but he is an outstanding athlete who is just learning the position. Don’t believe the reviews about him being a possession receiver. Jerry Rice proves speed isn’t the only weapon. Boldin isn’t Rice, but he is better than everyone but the top two receivers. If he’s gone I expect Rashean Mathis will be too, but if not, take him. The final fallback is Charles Tillman the corner from La. Laf. He may end up as a safety, but he should be an outstanding nickel back who could cover the taller receivers and tight ends.
Round 4 Dan Koppen He’s has great technique and is the best college center at calling blocking assignments. Koppen is tough and tough-minded. He knows his job and does it. If he’s gone and they didn’t take two DEs (they probably won’t) I’d go with Antwan Peek if he is still on the board or Shurron Pierson. They are likely only rush specialists, but good ones.
Round 5 Tony Pashos Someday Big will move to tackle and this guy is his replacement. He is not ideally mobile, but he moves the pile. He could be an outstanding drive blocker.
Round 6 Bryan Scott A “big” corner who likely plays strong safety in the NFL. He’s not a great cover guy, but he’s decent. He is a force against the run and should be a fine special teams player.
Round 6 Doug Garbriel This guy needs Sullivan’s magic, but he is a big play receiver. He can catch the ball in traffic, has enough speed to get separation and can develop. He plays to win. If either of these two aren’t there I’d take Arnaz Battle, another raw receiver with big potential.
Round 7 David Kircus He was a touchdown machine at Grand Valley. Yeah, the competition was easier but with 6’1” size, 4.47 speed and a 40” vertical, this guy could develop.
Here’s a few other names for the late rounds. I’ll give you a few more after I see how the early rounds go.
