The Washington Commanders have had contact with WR Stefon Diggs.

At least that is what ESPN football analyst Jeremy Fowler said on Monday, when a guest on "Grant & Danny" on 106.7 The Fan. As the conversation was wrapping up, here is what transpired. Grant Paulsen asked Fowler if he thought there was a good chance that Diggs signs with the Commanders. "Is it overstating to say, you're expecting at some point that he would sign here?"

"I'm not going to go that far, yet," said Fowler. "But I know they've had contact, and it's on the radar. So that tells me that if they sign a receiver, he's (Diggs) certainly on the short list. That's probably as far as I would go right now. I don't think it has heated up to that stage, where it is intensified."

Fowler then closed, noting that the Commanders attempted to rebuild most of their defense this offseason. Thus, he reasoned that GM Adam Peters might go ahead and sign Diggs, being fairly assured the Commanders could get some quality production this season.

Diggs, a free agent, will be 33 in November. Consequently, he is looking at a one-year deal with someone needing a veteran receiver. Diggs probably doesn't want to spend too much time in an NFL training camp, sweating and working hard. He might very well be content to miss the first couple of weeks, sign, and get in some action in one or two preseason games.

Playing in all 17 games in 2025, Diggs collected 85 receptions for 1,013 yards (11.9 YPR), four touchdowns, and 51 receiving first downs. The downside is Diggs has played on four teams (Vikings 2015-19, Bills 2020-23, Texans 2024 and Patriots in 2025. He has also had some off-the-field drama requiring legal authorities.

The former local product played for the Maryland Terrapins and has been vocal about wanting to play for the Commanders. Hey, he wants to play with Jayden Daniels as his quarterback.

Can you blame him?
