As the heart of the BCIAA girls basketball season cranks up, no team might be better prepared than the Wilson Bulldogs.
Wilson is 10-2 after playing a rigorous non-league schedule and not only will the Bulldogs need those battle-tested games for conference play but also when the District 3 Class 6A tournament rolls around in February.
The Bulldogs are ranked sixth in Class 6A in the most recent district power rankings, reflecting a tough field in that class.
Outside of the conference, Wilson is 4-0 in BCIAA Division 1, the Bulldogs have beaten Emmaus, Central York, Cedar Crest, Parkland, McCaskey and Abington Heights, with their lone losses to Cardinal O’Hara and Dallastown. A schedule that not only had them traveling to all corners of eastern Pennsylvania, but playing quality teams in preparation for runs in the postseason.
Dallastown (9-1) is ranked second in 6A in District 3 with Red Lion (11-1) the top ranked team.
Gov. Mifflin (6-3) is ranked 15th in 6A with the top 16 teams making the district playoffs.
Four other Berks teams would make the district playoffs as the rankings stand now.
In Class 3A, Oley Valley (7-4) is ranked fourth, and Kutztown (5-3) is ranked fifth. Six teams make the 3A playoffs. Trinity (10-0) is the top ranked team.
In Class 5A, Exeter (7-4) is ranked ninth, and Conrad Weiser (6-4) is ranked 13th. Northern York (9-0) is ranked No. 1 in the class. The top 14 teams make the district field.
