District 3 softball: Five Berks teams advance; Fleetwood beats Hamburg in 4A

Brynley Biehl and Lainee Guldner each drove in two runs as Fleetwood defeated Hamburg 9-5 in a District 3 Class 4A quarterfinal softball game on Monday.

The fourth-seeded Tigers (17-3) play at top-seeded Kennard-Dale (19-0) at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the semifinals. The other semifinal game is No. 3 Northern Lebanon at No. 2 Big Spring.

Winning pitcher Sophia Breidegam went the distance, giving up nine hits and four earned runs.

Hamburg committed eight errors in the game, as only two of Fleetwood’s nine runs were earned.

For the Hawks (15-6), Molly Krick and Norah Davey each drove in two runs.

Kutztown 8, Biglerville 0

BCIAA champion Kutztown opened District 3 play with an 8-0 win over Biglerville in Class 3A as two Cougar pitchers combined on a two-hitter.

Savannah Follweiler threw the first five innings, allowing just one hit and striking out five.

Paityn Ziegler pitched the last two innings, striking out three and giving up one hit.

Felicia Oldt had two hits and two RBIs for the Cougars, and Ava Kutz had two RBIs.

The second-seeded Cougars (17-4) host No. 3 Littlestown (18-3) at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Kutztown Park in a semifinal game. Thursday’s other semifinal pits top-seeded and defending champ Susquenita against Trinity.

Brandywine Heights 13, Camp Hill 2

Lizzie Tomaine and Gennie Aul each drove in three runs as Brandywine Heights defeated Camp Hill 13-2 in five innings in a District 3 Class 2A softball semifinal on Monday.

The second-seeded Bullets (11-7) play top-seeded Halifax (14-7) at 4 p.m. Thursday at Millersville University for the district title.

Jenna Christ was 2 for 4 with four runs scored for Brandywine and Kailyn Fegley drove in two runs. Winning pitcher Kaitlyn Steventon went five innings, striking out five and giving up three hits and two earned runs.

Wilson 10, Manheim Township 5

Layla Kope hit a home run, doubled and drove in five runs as No. 3 Wilson defeated No. 14 Manheim Township 10-5 in the first round of the Class 6A tournament on Monday.

The Bulldogs (18-3) host No. 6 Central York at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in a quarterfinal game.

Ava Legath also homered for Wilson and pitched the last six innings to earn the win. She gave up four hits, four unearned runs and struck out three. Wilson committed five errors in the game.

Abby Zerbe and Rylea Fick each went 3 for 3 for Wilson. One of Fick’s hits was a double. Maddy Snyder had two RBIs.

Twin Valley 10, Lampeter-Strasburg 2

Maggie Stoltzfus went 2 for 4 with a home run and drove in four runs as 10th-seeded Twin Valley defeated seventh-seeded Lampeter-Strasburg 10-2 in a Class 5A first round game.

The Raiders (16-4) advance to play at second-seeded Greencastle-Antrim at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Also for Twin Valley, Emma Naugle homered and drove in two runs.

Class 5A: No. 4 Red Land 15, No. 13 Exeter 5.

Class 3A: No. 1 Susquenita 10, No. 8 Tulpehocken 0; No. 3 Littlestown 5, No. 6 Schuylkill Valley 2.
