NBA on Prime: Dirk Nowitzki: Well, I think there's just too many distractions, too much going on to keep going this way. Um, this probably this move should have probably happened this summer. Honestly, I didn't want this negative energy and this black cloud over the Cooper era, but here we are now. I just knew. I figured this this fan base is a passionate and loyal fan base. I was lucky enough to to, you know, experience it for for twenty one years. And I knew they weren't just get over it as people say or forget about it.

More on Dirk Nowitzki, Nico Harrison
PJ Washington said, “I thank Nico for what he did for me.” He texted Nico Harrison and thanked him once he found out he was fired. reddit | Nov. 14, 2025
Tim MacMahon: Cuban's been lobbying for Nico to get fired for a while. He was not alone—he had a lot of people lobbying with him. I'm not going to say that Cuban’s lobbying was the primary reason, or even a major factor, but listen—he laid out a logical case for why they needed to move on. It wasn’t difficult to do. One thing Patrick Dumont realized was, "Hey, Cuban’s been doing this for a while. He’s been in this world for a while. I should at least listen to what he has to say—have dialogue with him"—instead of: “We’re going to be trading the face of the franchise, Mark.” “Oh... actually, it’s already done. I’m just giving you a courtesy call before it’s about to be reported in two minutes.” YouTube | Nov. 14, 2025

CM: Let me just say two things that I’ve heard from people in Dallas about this Nico situation. One, among the reasons they believe that Patrick Dumont and ownership has to make a change is that they have lost the community. They’ve lost the fan base. And that matters generally speaking, but this is a team that’s working on an arena deal here. They’re trying to get something done for a new building and you have to have goodwill with the community and with the fan base to get something like that done if you want local funding. Nico Harrison is "in good spirits" and planning to spend time with his wife and daughters after being fired 11 games into his fourth season as the Dallas Mavericks' general manager, NBA insider Chris Haynes said Tuesday. "He's in good spirits, man. He's going to take some time to be with himself and his family and just get away from everything," Haynes said on NBA TV. "It's been a tough situation. The day after the Mavericks lost their final game to the Golden state Warriors in the 2022 Western Conference Finals, I met with Nico to formally quit my position with the Mavericks, and to have an exit interview. There, I warned Nico about some of the developments I had witnessed during his first year in office: In particular, that he did not have a good grasp of who he should trust and who, among those under him, were simply kissing ass. Nico had drowned out many of the voices who could provide perspective, including those of the department where I was an analyst. Instead of being willing to hear critical input, Nico had empowered people who had little basketball knowledge — and these tended to be people, such as attorneys, who had worked their way up the ladder thanks to Nico himself. These people stroked Nico’s ego at every turn. Their unwillingness to disagree created an echo chamber. The Luka trade doesn’t happen if Nico’s ego isn’t inflated with every interaction inside the Mavericks front office. Marc Stein's Substack | Nov. 12, 2025
Nico Harrison lost his job with the Mavericks — and he seemingly wants the world to know it. Harrison was fired by Dallas on Tuesday, and soon after, he changed his Instagram bio to read: “Unemployed.” Harrison took over as the general manager of the Mavericks in 2021 and brought the team to the NBA Finals once (2024) but faced heat and a deluge of criticism from angry fans after trading star Luka Dončić to the Lakers in a shocking midnight trade in February. New York Post | Nov. 12, 2025
During a fall-from-ahead loss Monday night to the Milwaukee Bucks, Harrison was actually subjected to only a few fourth-quarter strains of the Fire Nico chant that has become so commonplace in Mavsland since the spring, but league sources tell The Stein Line that a decision had essentially already been made by that point. Dumont arrived at the American Airlines Center for Monday's game far earlier than usual — nearly two hours before tipoff. Sources say he met behind closed doors pregame with both team president Rick Welts and former majority owner Mark Cuban and duly scheduled meetings for Tuesday to end Harrison's reign and also to meet with players directly to talk about the timing of the change. marcstein.substack.com | Nov. 12, 2025
