The greatest women's tennis player of all time made her grand return to the court.

Serena Williams stepped away from the game following the 2022 U.S. Open, but she made her comeback official on June 30 at Wimbledon. In front of a raucous crowd at center court, the 44-year-old Williams drew 20-year-old Australian Maya Joint in the first round.

It didn't start well for Williams. Despite taking her first service game in a sweep, Joint then cruised to a 6-3 win in the first set.

Then, the comeback was on.

Williams stormed back in the second set, winning 7-6 while taking a thrilling 8-6 tiebreaker over Joint.

However, Williams would run out of gas in the third set.

Joint broke Williams on her serve, and would go on to win the set 6-3 to take the match.

Williams owns seven career titles at Wimbledon, with her last coming in 2016.
