David Beckham won the Premier League six times. He won trophies in Spain, the U.S. and France after that.
He is one of the most decorated players of his generation, and one of the most famous athletes in the world. He is married to a former Spice Girl turned fashion powerhouse, Victoria Beckham, and his name was used for a beloved independent film more than two decades ago: "Bend It Like Beckham."
But has the English superstar ever won a World Cup?
No. Beckham played in three World Cups for England, reached the quarterfinals twice, and never got past that round. England's last World Cup title is still 1966, nine years before he was born.
France 1998 was his first, and it nearly ended his career before it started. Diego Simone fouled him. Beckham kicked back. He got a red card, was ejected and England was out in the round of 16 on penalties. He flew home to death threats and an effigy of himself hanged outside a London pub.
He returned four years later in Japan and South Korea as the captain. In the group stage, against Argentina, the same opponent as the red card, Beckham buried the penalty. England reached the quarterfinals before Brazil, the eventual champion, ended the run.
In 2006, the Three Lions fell again in the quarterfinals with Beckham as the captain. 2010 was supposed to be his fourth World Cup, but a torn Achilles tendon that March closed the door before the tournament even opened.
