There's been a lot of buzz over the last 48 hours that the Denver Broncos could trade up to make a big splash in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft.
Not so fast, says The Athletic's Dianna Russini.
"Don’t expect the same kind of fireworks from the Broncos, one year after they took Bo Nix," Russini wrote in her pre-draft report on Wednesday. "Sean Payton does fall in love with players, but the sense I get right now is that Denver is comfortable with sticking at pick No. 20 and selecting the player it wants — or trading back. I heard the Broncos love some of the running backs, but not enough to move up."
Broncos general manager George Paton has acknowledged the team has made trade calls about potentially trading up (or down) during the draft. If Russini's report is accurate, fans should not expect Denver to move up.
It seems like the most likely scenario is the Broncos staying put and selecting their favorite player left on the board at No. 20, but you can never rule out trading down at the right price. So we're still in limbo waiting for Denver's decision on Thursday night, but the hype about a potential trade up seems to have been overblown.
