The Mets (7-4) host the Diamondbacks (5-6) this afternoon at Citi Field in Game 2 of their three-game series. Ryne Nelson gets the ball for Arizona and David Peterson is scheduled to start for New York.
Yesterday, the Mets rallied late getting a Jared Young pinch hit sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game at three and won it in the tenth on a Ronny Mauricio pinch hit single to right. The Mets’ bullpen threw 5.1 innings of shutout ball in relief of starter Freddy Peralta with Luke Weaver (1-0) getting the win. Adrian Del Castillo drove in a pair of runs in a losing effort for the Diamondbacks.
With the win, the Mets have now won four in a row. They lead in the National League East by 0.5 games over the Braves. The loss snapped Arizona’s modest two-game winning streak and dropped them four games behind the Dodgers in the National League West.
