Diamondbacks have four huge offensive problems to fix by MLB trade deadline originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Arizona Diamondbacks might have one of the best players in all of Major League Baseball in Corbin Caroll, and Ketel Marte is also finally picking up the pace lately offensively.
Geraldo Perdomo, Gabriel Moreno, and even Nolan Arenado are all hitting well enough this season to not pose a problem. But the same cannot be said for four other positions.
Tim Britton of The Athletic pointed out how the D-Backs have four positions: first base, designated hitter, center field, and left field, all bottom-five in MLB in offensive production this season. This team needs a lot of help by the 2026 trade deadline.
Diamondbacks have 4 big problems in lineup
"Just a couple of years removed from owning the sport's best offense, Arizona ranks 30th in baseball in production at first base, 29th in center field, 27th at DH, and 25th in left field," Britton writes.
Arizona's offense isn't nearly good enough this season, as on the year, they rank 26th in baseball with a .686 OPS. They might only have 547 strikeouts, the third fewest in baseball, but their overall offensive performance this season isn't close to good enough.
It's not one single player holding this team back, as the Diamondbacks aren't getting enough production from four key spots, and these are the four positions Arizona should be looking to address at this year's deadline.

Fortunately, trade options are abundant in the outfield, at first base, and obviously for the designated hitter spot.
In the outfield, Jarren Duran of the Boston Red Sox, Mickey Moniak of the Colorado Rockies, Byron Buxton of the Minnesota Twins, and Taylor Ward of the Baltimore Orioles are good trade targets.
At first base, Christian Walker of the Houston Astros, and Willson Contreras of the Red Sox could be trade options for Arizona this summer.
The Diamondbacks need a lot more offensive firepower if they're to compete with the top teams in the league, and it's clear they need to add help at first base, designated hitter, left field, or center field by the August 3 trade deadline.
