PHILADELPHIA — The All-Star Game is a showcase of the very best in MLB, and Arizona Diamondbacks left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez’s debut reinforced why he was named one.

In the first All-Star Game of his career, the southpaw took the mound in the second inning and needed just eight pitches to retire American League All-Stars Ernie Clement, Mike Trout and Yordan Alvarez. He induced quick contact, stayed in command and made quick work of one of baseball’s most dangerous groups of hitters.

The outing was short but highlighted exactly why Rodriguez earned his first All-Star selection. His ability to attack the strike zone, limit deep counts and generate weak contact has been a consistent theme throughout his standout campaign in Arizona.

It didn’t take long for D-Backs fans to celebrate the brief but impactful appearance online, pointing to it as validation of what they have watched all season. While the national audience only saw one inning, Arizona supporters viewed it as another example of the poise and command that have made Rodriguez the Diamondbacks’ ace.


While it wasn’t an immaculate inning, Rodriguez still delivered one of the cleanest appearances by a National League pitcher. More importantly, he demonstrated that his success wasn’t an accident.

Tuesday’s appearance was an exhibition and won’t count in the record books, but it served as more proof of Rodriguez’s reemergence as one of the NL’s top pitchers and why he’s been pitching like an All-Star since his first start in 2026.
