The New York Mets are not in a great place. Losers of 12 straight games, not even the news of outfielder Juan Soto’s return gave the Mets a boost of energy.

Tuesday night’s loss gave the Mets a new feeling of pain, as right-hander Nolan McLean took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, but lost it. Minnesota Twins outfielder Matt Walner singled, and center fielder Byron Buxton drove him in with a two-run home run two hitters later to chase McLean from the game.

The bullpen failed to hold the lead for the Mets, with right-hander Devin Williams proving to struggle the most.

Williams was the one reason why a 3-2 lead turned into a 5-3 loss. In his one inning of work, the two-time All-Star (2022 and 2023) didn't record an out, walked three, and allowed two earned runs.

Williams spoke about the losing streak after the game and has never experienced a skid this bad in his eight years in the big leagues.

"It's tough,” Williams said postgame to SNY. “I don't know, I've never been a part of something like this. I think we just need to get the one win out of the way and I think everything else will take care of itself, but it's obviously proving pretty difficult right now."

Overall, through eight games, William is 0-1 with a 9.95 ERA and has two saves in three opportunities. Williams' struggles stem from last season with the New York Yankees, going 4-6 with a 4.79 ERA and blowing four saves (18-for-22).
