The Tigers placed starting catcher Jake Rogers on the 10-day injured list with left oblique tightness. Rogers was originally scheduled to start Tuesday's game against the New York Yankees but was scratched from the lineup an hour before first pitch after picking up the injury during warmups.

Shortly after he was scratched, the Tigers announced they placed him on the 10-day injured list and called up catcher Tomás Nido from Triple-A Toledo. Backup catcher Dillon Dingler replaced Rogers in Tuesday's lineup.

Rogers has been the preferred catching partner for Tigers ace Tarik Skubal, who starts on Tuesday. Another catcher will catch a Skubal start for the first time since Carson Kelly in Sept. 2023. Rogers caught every Skubal start during his Cy Young-winning campaign in 2024.

Rogers has played in six of the 10 games to start 2025. He is hitting .222 (4-of-18) with a .697 OPS, including a three-walk, two runs scored performance in the first game against the Yankees on Monday.

To make room for Nido on the 40-man roster, the Tigers moved outfielder Wenceel Pérez (back) to the 60-day injured list. Pérez was ruled out for at least a month at the end of spring training with lower back inflammation, but has yet to resume baseball activities, according to the latest update from the team on Tuesday.
