The Detroit Pistons have reportedly made another move as they continue reshaping their roster this offseason.
According to NBA insider Marc Stein, Detroit has traded guard Marcus Sasser to the Dallas Mavericks.
“Dallas has now lined up deals to be made official once the moratorium is lifted July 6 to acquire Aldama as well as Detroit’s MarcusSasser and clinched this trade by dealing a 2030 first-round pick via Golden State (protected 1-to-20) also acquired in the Anthony Davis swap,” Stein posted on X.
While Stein confirmed Sasser is headed to the Mavericks, he did not report what the Pistons are receiving in return.
Sasser spent three seasons with the Pistons after being selected with the No. 25 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.
The former Houston standout showed flashes of scoring ability during his time in Detroit, but he struggled to carve out a consistent role in a crowded backcourt. Last season, Sasser appeared in 38 games, averaging 5.2 points and 2.0 assists while shooting an impressive 41.5 percent from three point range.
Despite his outside shooting, Sasser’s playing time became increasingly limited as the Pistons continued to add depth at the guard position.
The reported trade is the latest in what has been an aggressive offseason for President of Basketball Operations Trajan Langdon.
Detroit has already made several significant moves to reshape its roster, including acquiring Isaiah Joe, re-signing Kevin Huerter, trading Isaiah Stewart, and selecting Ebuka Okorie in the first round of the NBA Draft.
Moving Sasser appears to be another step in the organization’s effort to reshape the roster around Cade Cunningham while creating additional flexibility heading into the 2026-27 season.
At this point, one major piece of the deal remains unknown.
Stein’s report confirms that Sasser is headed to Dallas but does not disclose what compensation the Pistons will receive. More details are expected once the trade becomes official.
Marcus Sasser’s tenure in Detroit appears to have come to an end as the Pistons continue one of the NBA’s busiest offseasons.
While the full terms of the trade have yet to be revealed, Detroit’s front office continues to make aggressive moves as it looks to build a deeper roster capable of competing in the Eastern Conference.
