The Detroit Lions will now need to add a new backup quarterback this offseason, in addition to their plethora of other position needs, after Kyle Allen reportedly is expected to sign with the Buffalo Bills at the start of the league's new year on March 11.
According to ESPN, the 30-year-old ninth-year veteran has come to terms with Buffalo on a two-year, $4.1 million deal, reuniting him with his former coordinator-turned-new Bills head coach, Joe Brady.
Allen arrived in Detroit a year ago after inking a one-year deal, where he appeared in just three games and attempted two passes in 2025, with starting quarterback Jared Goff logging 98.5% of the team’s offensive snaps.
Although Allen's on-field play was minimal in Detroit due to his limited snaps, his biggest contribution was his impressive preseason performance, which forced the Lions to end their experiment with former quarterback Hendon Hooker.
With Allen now a part of the Bills, the Lions will need to find a new option to supplement the depth behind Goff, who has not missed a game since Week 17 of the 2021 season.
