Last offseason, USC men’s basketball brought back just one scholarship player from the previous year. This year, it appears the Trojans may be trying to do it again. On Tuesday, USC’s mass roster turnover continued with 2024-2025 leading scorer Desmond Claude entering the transfer portal.

Claude, who transferred to USC from Xavier last offseason, started 32 games for the Trojans this past season. On the year, he averaged 15.8 points, 4.2 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per contest.

With nearly all of USC’s roster from last season set to depart either to graduation or via the transfer portal, Claude was set to be one of the team’s only returners next year. With his departure, however, the Trojans will bring back virtually no one for the second offseason in a row.

According to On3’s Joe Tipton, Claude is still considering a return to USC, and will also go through the NBA Draft process. Hence, it is possible that this is merely him trying to negotiate a better NIL deal from the Trojans. Given the current state of USC’s roster and the lack of continuity in the program, USC fans are really hoping that is the case and that Claude will indeed be back in Cardinal and Gold next year.
