If they blitzed you'd be complaining about them getting gashed by open guys in the passing game and opposing QBs having 75% comp rates every game. It's a balance.
Blitz design was terribly obvious. Rallis or Gannon? We’ll see!

“IF”

Who cares. The defense sucked and no Ralisplaining will make it better.

The Cards kept a failing DC, failing GM, and think that this year it will be a winning formula.

Nice try. It wasn't a balance. They clung to the four-man rush to their dying day. To what should have been Rallis's firing, too. You know, if they tried with four and failed, then tried to blitz to make up for the the shortcoming and blazed out and lost anyway, I could at least recognize that they were trying. By the end, they weren't even coaching. No adjustments. Just "the system works" type of repetitive nonsense.

The frustrating part about the lack of information around injuries is the organization going this puts the target on the players and they get bashed for not coming back fast enough. The Cardinals really do a disservice to their players here. I think Garrett Williams does not play next year and I have no clue about Nolan, but I am more optimistic after what his GF posted.

it's just so stupid/bizarre that this is all we have to go off.

Since we are talking about the defense, I am curious what you all think about the state of the defensive secondary.

I like DTD better than Thompson, though development is needed. Reps & coaching could get him there. I thought Crawford was better than expected. Williams is a question mark, as is what happened to Melton. If Johnson stays healthy, that’s huge. Jones flashed late in the season. Burke needs to be a press corner. Lots of unknowns. Still also lots of potential.

You have more optimism about some of these guys than I do.

One of the things I was trying to indicate here was how much a player like Nolen can impact the pass rush. When Nolen pierces the Oline he at least partially collapses the pocket. That often forces the QB to exit to the side. A good rusher like Sweat is often positioned to take down the exiting QB. If Nolen is able to play most of the season I expect sacks to rise and completions to decline.

I was told injuries don't matter. Good players playing helps the team???????

Yup.
DT'S getting in the backfield cause chaos for an offense.
It helps the defense even if they don't finish

He can, but it is still 5 on 4 which requires two players to beat 1-1 matchups on the same play and doing so in time to impact the passer. Nolen is only going to play around 60% of reps. How many of those reps are on downs where the opposing team calls a pass play? Josh Sweat's game high % of snaps was 67% so how many of Nolen's 60% will overlap with Sweat's 65% which will also overlap with the opposing team running a passing down on that play. So we start really getting down in the % of opportunities for two mutually exclusive events to occur.

This highlights why it is important to have a rotation of players who can win one on one matchups along the defensive front.

Ultimately, this is where I stand. My preference would have been to have 8.5 mil less cap space from the 40 mil we have to have kept Dalvin Tomlinson and pair him with Roy Lopez. I also would have preferred to sell Calais on the Cardinals path to competition while also paying him 8 mil, and have him with a line of Nolen, Proctor, Collier, Stills, Tomlinson and Lopez. This would have given them a roster that could also evaluate what to do with Robinson without being pressured to keep him inside out of necessity.

All the posters applauding Monti for cutting Tomlinson look really stupid now. "Save that cap space and sign a replacement!" Yeah, how'd that work out? My Cap Space jersey still applies.

Cardinals lost what? 7 games 4 points or less? Saying that anything could be an improvement as long as Cards keep it close. The strength of schedule is tough for AZ this year too
