Spain wrapped up their international window with a dull 0-0 draw against Egypt in Barcelona, having more chances than their rivals but failing to make them count. Both sides hit the woodwork, Omar Mamoush for Egypt early on and then Alejandro Grimaldo for Spain minutes before the final whistle.

Dean Huijsen was among the starters, making his first appearance for his adopted country since September. He started alongside Cristhian Mosquera, the Arsenal defender who joined the Gunners from Valencia in the summer, in his first start.

The youngster looked composed in and out of possession and was key to moving the ball forwards. It was that kind of ambition that saw him on the edge of the Egypt box creating a chance for Spain.

His pass completion sat at 89% and he looked assured both in and out of possession, not being troubled by the Egypt attack, and giving a good account of himself.

The game was hosted at the RCDE Stadium, home to Espanyol, and was sold out for the third game for the Spanish national team in four years in Catalan territory.

This was the final match go be hosted for Spain before coach Luis de la Fuente selects his squad for the 2026 World Cup. While not yet confirmed, there is still an expectation that La Roja will play two more friendlies before taking on Cape Verde on June 15th in Atlanta.
