Welcome back to NASCAR, Ryan Newman.

After a hiatus of nearly three years, “Rocket Man” will climb back into the cockpit next month as part of Kaulig Racing’s free-agent truck program. He’ll drive the No. 25 Ram on July 18 at North Wilkesboro Speedway.

“I’m really excited to get back behind the wheel at North Wilkesboro and to be part of Ram’s free-agent program,” Newman said. “It’s special returning to a brand I had so much success with early in my career, and racing at Wilkesboro is always cool.”

Newman won 18 races, including the 2008 Daytona 500, across 23 seasons in the Cup Series. He last competed full-time in 2021 before making eight starts for Rick Ware Racing in 2023.

It’s been even longer since he suited up in the Truck Series. The 48-year-old owns only seven lifetime starts on that circuit and none since 2018. He captured one win (2008 at Atlanta).

Newman did run at North Wilkesboro in the not-too-distant past. In August 2022, he claimed a 50-lap modified race there and dubbed it one of the most memorable victories of his career.

He follows names like Tony Stewart, Colin Braun, Travis Pastrana, Clint Bowyer and Jamie McMurray among those who have sat in Kaulig’s free-agent seat this season.

Thirteen of Newman's 18 Cup wins came in a Dodge.
