Jun. 25—The Dayton Flyers will play The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley on Dec. 15 at UD Arena, according to a report on Wednesday, June 24, by college basketball analyst Rocco Miller.

This will be the first meeting between the programs and the third meeting in coach Anthony Grant's 10 seasons between Dayton and a team from the Southland Conference. Dayton beat Houston Baptist 99-68 on Dec. 3, 2019, and Southeastern Louisiana 80-74 on Dec. 3, 2022.

UTRGV finished 19-14 last season and 14-8 in the Southland. It was the second and last season for coach Kahil Fennell, who was 16-15 and 8-12 in his first season. He left after the 2025-26 season to take the head coaching job at Western Michigan.

UTRGV's new coach, Brandon Chambers, is a 2011 graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University. Grant was the head coach at VCU from 2006-09. Chambers worked as a student manager on Shaka Smart's staff at VCU from 2009-11.

Chambers worked on Will Wade's staff at North Carolina State last season after working for Wade the previous two seasons at McNeese State.

One of Chambers' assistants is Joey Rodriguez, who played for Grant at VCU in the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons.

Dayton's full-conference schedule has not been announced. These are the known games:

Oct. 17: Exhibition vs. Notre Dame at UD Arena.

Nov. 2: vs. New Jersey Institute of Technology at UD Arena.

Nov. 14: vs. Cincinnati at UD Arena.

Nov. 29: vs. Memphis in Chicago.

Dec. 2: vs. Loyola Maryland at UD Arena.
