Jun. 4—The Dayton Flyers men's basketball team will open the 2026-27 season on Nov. 2 against the New Jersey Institute of Technology, according to a report on Wednesday, June 3, by Jon Rothstein, of CBS Sports.

Nov. 2 is a Monday. It's the first day college basketball teams can play.

Dayton has never played NJIT, which moved to Division I in the 2006-07 season.

NJIT plays in the America East Conference. It finished 16-17 last season. Despite posting the best conference record in program history last season (10-6), NJIT has suffered seven straight losing seasons since a 22-13 campaign in 2018-19. It has never played in the NCAA tournament.

Coach Grant Billmeier is 29-63 in three seasons.

Dayton has won its first game of the season 21 straight times. It has not lost on opening night since 2004 against Eastern Kentucky.

This is the fourth known date on Dayton's schedule. The other games that have been announced are:

Oct. 17: Exhibition vs. Notre Dame at UD Arena.

Nov. 14: vs. Cincinnati at UD Arena.

Dec. 12: vs. South Florida at UD Arena.
