SACRAMENTO, CA — South Carolina women's basketball has won its sixth consecutive Elite Eight game.
No. 1 seed South Carolina (34-3) took down No. 3 seed TCU (32-5) by a score of 78-52 on March 30, advancing to its sixth straight the Final Four.
The Gamecocks will play UConn (38-0), the No. 1 overall seed that hasn't lost since February 2025, on April 3 (7 p.m. ET, ESPN) at Mortgage Matchup Center in Phoenix in the Final Four.
It will be a rematch from the 2025 national championship and be another matchup between two of women's basketball's most successful coaches in Dawn Staley and Geno Auriemma.
Here's a look at the history of these two coaches, before the next meeting on April 3 in Phoenix.
In 2024-25, UConn beat South Carolina twice in the same season.
The Huskies won 87-58 on Feb. 16, 2025, snapping South Carolina's 71-game win streak in Colonial Life Arena. Then in the NCAA championship game, UConn won 82–59.
Auriemma is 10-5 against Staley. Before the 2025, Staley was undefeated in national championship games and was the first coach to beat Auriemma in a title game.
Staley, who is in her 18th season, didn't win against Auriemma until 2020. South Carolina won four straight from 2021-24.
The Gamecocks are 5-11 in the series (one before Staley) which is tied 2-2 in neutral site games. South Carolina beat UConn in Columbia in 2024, part of its undefeated season that ended with a national championship win.
Staley was 15-years old when Auriemma was in his first season with UConn in 1985-86.
Auriemma has 12 national championships, the most of any men's or women's college basketball coach.
In 2024, he set the NCAA record as the winningest coach in college basketball history. Auriemma, 72, is in his 41st season with UConn.
The late Pat Summitt won eight with Tennessee. Kim Mulkey has four, three from her time at Baylor and one from LSU.
Staley is hunting her fourth national championship, which would move her to third all time, tied with Mulkey.
South Carolina's first was in 2017 then she won again in 2022 and 2024. She's tied with Tara VanDerveer, who won three with Stanford before retiring in 2024.
UConn just punched its ticket to a 25th Final Four, all under Auriemma.
The Huskies have been to 17 of the last 18 Final Fours.
This will be Staley's eighth Final Four in the last 11 seasons and sixth straight with the Elite Eight win over TCU.
Fifteen former UConn players made opening day rosters for the 2025 WNBA season. UConn has produced 50 WNBA draft selections, with three last year, including No. 1 overall pick Paige Bueckers.
According to the WNBA, UConn also holds record for most first-round picks with Bueckers the 28th in 2025.
Bueckers was the sixth first overall pick from UConn, as the school also holds the record in the category as well.
Staley has produced 18 WNBA draft selections since taking over the South Carolina program in 2008.

On Jan. 17, 2025, Staley's became the highest-paid college women’s basketball coach in the history of the sport.
Staley's new contract took effect immediately and runs through 2029-30. She's receiving annual salary of $4 million with a $250,000 increase every season and a $500,000 signing bonus that makes the total value approximately $25.25 million.
According to the USA TODAY Sports database, Staley was third with her previous salary of $3,100,000 and Auriemma was making $3,100,000 as of March 2024, putting him at second.
