Kennedy Lane kept doing what she does for Daviess County’s girls’ basketball team. That was scoring 31 points and leading her team to another berth in the 3rd Region championship game.
Lane was a catalyst for DC to get rolling in the second half to a 54-30 win over Meade County on Friday night at the Owensboro Sportscenter in the 3rd Region semifinals.
Daviess County (27-5) will have the chance to play for a second straight 3rd Region championship this Sunday at 3 p.m., when it faces Owensboro Catholic for a fourth time this season.
DC beat Catholic 48-42 for the 9th District championship a little over a week ago, after the Lady Aces won both regular season matchups.
“It’s amazing,” DC coach Natalie Payne said of the chance to go now and defend the regional crown. “I’m so proud of the girls’ fight and willingness to sacrifice for each other. It’s an amazing feeling to be back here again.
“Kennedy keeps on keeping on. She knows how to score in a variety of ways, and she can get creative when she needs to. When she has the ball in her hands I have all the confidence in the world in her to make a play. Her teammates were finding her with some good screens, getting her going down hill.
“We started getting out in transition trying to get some easy baskets. They were in the junk, triangle-and-two, our kids know how to navigate through that. Our defense was the key, again.
Lane was 12-of-29 from the floor, 6-of-11 on 3-point shots.
DC was 21-of-43 from the floor for 48.8% and 9-of-23 from 3-point range.
“It feels great, we’re really determined,” Lane said of going back to the regional championship game.
DC got going in the third quarter by working together to get open shots for Lane and Riley Hayden.
“We were getting face guarded, and our teammates set screens for us, we just came out stronger and were shooting confidently,” Lane said.
Meade County finished 18-12. Karla Thornsberry and Ella Lucas each scored nine points to lead Meade County.
