Springfield High School announced the hiring of Dr. Ronald Gordon as athletic director on Friday, June 19. He will be recommended to the Board of Education.

Gordon is a graduate of South High School. He currently serves as the director of community initiatives in the Springfield City School District.

“I am honored and humbled by the opportunity to serve as Athletic Director for the Springfield City School District, Gordon said in a press release. "As a Springfield graduate, this community has played a significant role in shaping who I am. I look forward to working alongside our coaches, student-athletes, families, staff, alumni, and community partners to build upon the proud tradition of Wildcat Athletics while creating a new era of excellence for the Springfield Athletic program."

Gordon, who will take over as AD on July 1, replaces longtime AD Michael Dellapina. Gordon previously worked at Clark State College as the dean of enrollment services and served as AD from 2007-13.

"Dr. Gordon's passion for Springfield, commitment to students, and proven leadership experience made him stand out throughout a highly competitive interview process," said Dr. Robert Hill, CEO/Superintendent, in a press release. "He understands our community because he is part of our community. His ability to build relationships, develop programs, and bring people together around a common vision will serve our student-athletes, coaches, and families well.
