The Cincinnati Reds placed shortstop Elly De La Cruz on the 10-day injured list with a right hamstring strain on Monday, June 1.
De La Cruz leads Reds starters with a .280 average. He’s tied with Sal Stewart for the team lead with 12 home runs and 37 RBIs.
De La Cruz went 2-for-2 on Sunday in a 6-4 victory against the Atlanta Braves but left the game in the fifth inning because of the injury.
Taking De La Cruz’s place on the roster is 22-year-old infielder Edwin Arroyo, who was promoted from Triple-A Louisville, where he hit .323 with 11 home runs and 34 RBIs in 53 games.
Arroyo entered the season as the third-ranked prospect in the Reds organization, according to MLB.com. The Mariners drafted him in the second round in 2021. The Reds acquired him in a deal that sent pitcher Luis Castillo to the Mariners in 2022.
The Reds made one other move Monday, designating right-handed pitcher Yunior Marte for assignment.
The Reds (30-28) start a three-game series against the Kansas City Royals (22-37) at Great American Ball Park on Monday.
