The worst-kept secret in Texas Tech basketball history is finally out.
The Red Raiders announced the signing of Darrion Williams, who returns to Lubbock after a one-year hiatus with NC State. Williams, along with other members of the 2022 high school recruiting class, are currently eligible to play a fifth year after a judge in Colorado granted a blanket injunction giving another year of eligibility to bypass the NCAA's recent rules change.
Williams has a lore about him in a Red Raider uniform, showing off his clutch gene during his true-junior campaign with game-winning plays against the likes of Houston, Kansas and Arkansas. His most notable moments came in the Sweet 16 comeback win over the Razorbacks when he hit the game-tying 3-pointer to send the game to overtime and hit the game-winning shot in the extra session.
Williams entered the portal after the season in case the five-for-five eligibility rule came to fruition, making him available for the Red Raiders to add in August. He has been around the program for months, including supporting the Texas Tech softball team in Oklahoma City during the Women's College World Series.
Earlier Friday the Red Raiders announced the signing of UCF transfer Jamichael Stillwell, who also was granted an additional year of eligibility through the courts.
