1st practice is going like a 1st practice

-Rod Graves has been working all night on Rolle's contract
-wont be easy
-doesnt get the sense that it is going easily
-hopefully will happen in the next few days

-JJ is getting a lot of reps
-JJ will be the starting RB
-Can Shipp get healthy fast enough - Denny seems to have sympathy for Shipp, and seems to want to stick with him as long as possible.

-No reason why Denny couldnt have cut Wendell awhile ago, but still not surprised about the cut.

-Q deal - a common sense deal - solid for both sides
-Q is really happy about the deal being done

Urban didn't come across as a really great guy on the radio this morning. Seems to not like Green's decisions much and likes to voice that opinion. His words on Arrington weren't the greatest either, and I don't pin any of that on JJ's performance.

The guy sounds like he needs a vacation, but he always sounds like that.

Darren Urban of the Trib.?

I'm sorry but i think your reading him wrong. If there has ever been a sports repoter, in the valley, that has given the Cards their propers when due ,but, still always had a sensible way , and truthful way of looking at them, he's it.
He's not a "gambo or Ass". He's as close to a "homer" reporter as we'll ever get.
Write him, ask him anything you want about the Cards. He'll answer you, respectfully, point out where he and you disagree and why.
He's a good dude. Solid writer.
I didn't hear it, so I can't say what it sounded like.
If we're talking about him not liking some of Green's moves, nor do alot of people on this board.
Cards moves, I don't know, they seem to be making all the right decisions.(Yes Green is a part of that).
Urban is alright in my book.
JJ hasn't had a performance, yet. HE will.
Most folk are in agreement with Green about Shipp, he has it, can he take it to the next level.
Urban doesn't normally just "bash the Cards". It isn't his style. Or wasn't.

What did he say about Arrington? It doesn't sound good. Can you give some details?

Something like: "The Cardinals are pinning a lot on a 2nd round rookie running back."

He also had a major problem with releasing Wendall Bryant now as opposed to two or three months ago. Compared it to Pete Kendall. Negativity sells papers more than positivity, I suppose.

Who cares about when Bust Bryant is cut? Not even Bryant seemed to care that much. :)

Clinton Portis was a 2nd round rookie runningback that had a lot pinned on him

Both points are well-taken. There has been excessive hype heaped on Arrington primarily by the national media. But the good youngsters always seem to rise to the occasion.

Nearing the close of the first day of training camp, the most you can say about any player (rookie or vet) is that "on paper" he looks good, promising or sucky. Translation - If you play the odds, Arrington seems to look like a keeper. But there's always a percentage possibility that he won't be.

Many reporters are loathe to assume the roles of soothsayers. But just because they feel uncomfortable about saying a kid's a definite lock doesn't necessarily mean they feel he's lousy.

That's not what I heard... I heard Urban imply that Denny might be skeptical about Shipp in general, and that he needs to get on the field ASAP. What I think the quote was was something along the lines of: "Look at what he said last season, '288 carries and no TDs?' Marcel Shipp has a lot to prove to even make the team."

At least that's how I remember it. Everyone agreed that J.J. Arrington has the starting job on lockdown, unless he really stinks in the preseason.

That is what Urban said verbatim, almost.

 It's all good; I just thought it was a far cry from "Denny feels real sympathy for Shipp", which is something that I didn't hear. Urban really sounded like Marcel Shipp's roster spot was in jeopardy. I can't remember 100% whether Urban or the other guys said that he needs to get on the field, but that was the general tone of the statements.

Another question is what is going to happen to Hambrick? Didn't show to mini camps and comes in unable to practice?

Nothing earthshattering. He thinks Rolle will be signed in by Thursday... but no inside info. He just talked about the weather and recap of the first day
