This week, Chiefs Wire's Ed Easton Jr. spoke with retired All-Pro NFL kick returner and Kansas City Chiefs legend Dante Hall.
In his interview with Easton Jr., Hall discussed his role as an NFL Alumni ambassador for the 'GEAR UP Against Cancer'campaign's fight against lung cancer, in partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Division of Cancer Prevention and Control. He also weighed in on the reason for the disappointing Chiefs' 2025 season.
"I don't have anyone that died from lung cancer, but my grandmother passed from breast cancer, and my aunt, my dad's sister, she survived breast cancer," said Hall, "A good friend of mine, Tory Holt and his brother, Terrence, I support their initiative every year, because their parents died from cancer, and they have an initiative to help kids that have lost parents to cancer."
The 2025 Chiefs season was marred by penalties and many self-inflicted issues, leading to their worst season under head coach Andy Reid. Hall doesn't hold back in his assessment of the team missing a significant piece of the puzzle.
"A crucial piece, just speaking on the offensive side, was definitely Eric Bieniemy, I think he is a piece that people don't talk about enough," said Hall. "The offensive line was in disarray, managing injuries, and the salary cap. That's all true as well. Hunger, when you go to seven straight AFC Championship games, you think that's just what it is, and it's just what it's going to be every year. You need that hunger."
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was playing at a Pro Bowl level before suffering a season-ending knee injury in Week 15.
"As long as you got (Patrick) Mahomes and Andy Reid, you're going to be fine, but I will add to that. I think our running game is very necessary and will help not only the offense and Patrick Mahomes, but the defense as well," said Hall. "I think we started to rely on the Superman, Herculean efforts of Patrick Mahomes, too much. Give him a running game like Tom Brady had for his first three Super Bowls. I think that'll help the defense rest without wearing out, which also leads to injuries. Bring Eric Bieniemy back. Get a every down running back, and I think everything else will fall into place."
