This week, Chiefs Wire's Ed Easton Jr. spoke with retired All-Pro NFL kick returner and Kansas City Chiefs legend Dante Hall.
In his interview with Easton Jr., Hall discussed his role as an NFL Alumni ambassador for the 'GEAR UP Against Cancer'campaign's fight against lung cancer, in partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Division of Cancer Prevention and Control. He also reflected on the unique energy of fans at Arrowhead Stadium.
"Awareness, early detection is like going to be your best friend when dealing with any type of cancer. So no one (knows personally), fortunately, has died from lung cancer," said Hall, "I think any type of cancer we can all relate to in regards to this initiative and getting awareness out there and using our platforms to help people go get checked out."
The Chiefs play in one of the most recognizable stadiums in sports, with Arrowhead Stadium hosting some of the most memorable moments in its history.
"There's a lot that sticks out when you play in that stadium. I think the first thing that comes to mind for me is leaving Texas A&M, which is one of the best collegiate atmospheres you can play in. I was very fortunate to get that at the professional level," said Hall, "We've played in many stadiums. In retirement, we visited many stadiums. I've been fortunate to attend soccer matches in Europe. Kansas City and Arrowhead Stadium are very special stadiums, just because of the passion that that fan base brings."
Hall played for the Chiefs from 2000 to 2006 and created many memorable moments with his electrifying returns, changing games. Fans have been entertained at the stadium for decades by the Chiefs' talented stars who have come through.
"The thing that stands out to me, without going over any particular play or anything, the first thing that comes to mind for me is passion," said Hall, "Those fans have passion, whether you are in the Super Bowl era led by (Patrick) Mahomes and Coach Andy Reid, or when I was there with Dick Vermeil, and we couldn't even win a playoff game, I feel like the passion was the absolute insane. That says a lot about that community and that fan base."
The Chiefs are expected to have a new stadium built in Kansas ahead of the 2031 season, ending their stay at Arrowhead Stadium.
"It's the fans that make the stadium. So whether the stadium is at Arrowhead in Missouri or moving to Kansas," said Hall, "I think the atmosphere is going to be the same."
