Soon after a SiriusXM radio appearance from senior ESPN Reporter Shams Charania in which he described the relationship off the court of Boston Celtics stars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown as nearly non-existent, pushback from NBA veterans began to percolate throughout the NBA media. To start, let's put aside the ethics or lack thereof to make such statements without referencing whether Charania was sourced or speculating (to say nothing of the commonplace tendency to publish sourced material critical of third parties in anonymity) when he made that claim.
The rebuttal made by former NBAer and "No Fouls Given" podcast cohost Danny Green about that supposed absence of friendship on a recent episode of his show added a different perspective on Charania's allegations regarding Brown and Tatum's ties. "I don't see much from it, man. Shams' reports, what he hears, I'm sure somebody asked Jaylen," said Green graciously. "JT was rehabbing, he also has a young baby. You know what I'm saying?"
"As adults, you've grown, guys have families (and are) going to hang out a lot at home," he added. "Most of the hanging out is on the road .. If JT is not traveling with the team, going to dinners and hanging out, he ain't going to see him as much."
"He's got a family," Green emphasized. "Again, it's a young child, new young child. Got a couple other, Deuce is a little older now."
"And again, people just trying to find reasons or explain this inexcusable trade— or why the trade went down," said Green.

"But he was rehabbing, so I don't see much of it. Again, not everybody has to be best friends to be great on the court. We've seen it. I've been a part of it. I mean, he's close to some. I was always cool with everybody, but I wasn't the closest. Like, we didn't hang out everywhere all the time. Some guys we didn't, but we still worked well on the court and were able to produce, win a championship, so that's all that matters."
"And again, people just trying to find reasons or explain this inexcusable trade— or why the trade went down," said Green.
