After making a fast-paced second-half push, it appeared Dallas Trinity FC would pick up a victory in front of its home crowd Wednesday night. Thanks to a stoppage-time goal, that result didn't stick.
Trinity FC settled for a 2-2 tie with Lexington SC at the Cotton Bowl. While Lexington held the advantage early, Trinity responded in the second half with goals from Lexi Missimo and Lauren Flynn.
Lexington's first goal came in the match's 25th minute, as Alyssa Bourgeois capitalized on a counter-attack opportunity. Bourgeois sped past several Trinity defenders before she sent a shot past Tyler McCamey.
Trinity turned things around about 30 minutes later, when Missimo made the most of a direct free kick. The midfielder's shot took a slight deflection before it traveled over a wall of defenders and past the hands of Lexington goalkeeper Kat Asman.
Flynn's 79th-minute goal gave Trinity the lead. The defender finished off a scoring opportunity that started with a corner kick from Chioma Ubogagu, and included a back heel pass from Sealey Strawn.
The advantage nearly held up until the match's end, but Lexington found a way to even things up in the 92nd minute. While Trinity's McCamey stopped a header, Lexington's Catherine Barry was in the right place to push a loose ball into the goal.
The draw meant Lexington maintained its advantage over Trinity in the Gainbridge Super League standings. Lexington (7-2-10) sits in second with 31 points, while Trinity (8-6-5) is in fourth with 29 points.
Trinity continues Gainbridge Super League play against Sporting Club Jacksonville on Sunday at the Cotton Bowl.
