Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys finally started chipping away at their salary cap mess, and they didn’t waste any time once they got going.
With the NFL business year set to begin on March 11, the Cowboys made their first big splash on Wednesday by restructuring a pair of contracts that opened up some serious room.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Field Yates reported the team restructured contracts for Dak Prescott and Tyler Smith, freeing up $47 million in space. More changes were likely coming.

It did not take long for the next domino to fall. ESPN’s Todd Archer reported that Sources say the CeeDee Lamb’s contract has been restructured as well. And the Cowboys now under the cap.
When you add it all up, the moves involving Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and Tyler Smith created roughly $65 million in breathing room. That was enough to push Dallas back into compliance, landing them about $7 million under the cap, per Spotrac.
The work is not done, though. There are still a few easy adjustments left that could unlock another $50 million or so before the league year officially opens.
Does this roster still have holes? Some do believe. But the offseason has not been completely quiet. Bringing in Christian Parker and signing Javonte Williams were steps in some direction. How they have handled the George Pickens and Brandon Aubrey situations also tells you something about where their heads are at.

Getting competitive again is the first goal. Building real flexibility for free agency is the bigger one. That requires calculated risks, and maybe this front office is finally ready to take a few.

Estimated salary conversions for Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, & Tyler Smith open up about $65M of cap space, bringing the #Cowboys into compliancy (+$7M).
Dallas still has plenty of simple solutions to gain a significant amount ($50M+) of space by the start of the league year.
