The Chicago Cubs and Seattle Mariners hooked up for a minor trade on Sunday, with pitcher Yosver Zulueta going to Chicago for cash considerations according to Francys Romero.

Zulueta, 28, was designated for assignment June 10. He didn’t appear in an MLB game this season and was 2-3 with a 5.75 ERA in 22 appearances at Triple-A Tacoma. Zulueta allowed only 20 hits in 20.1 innings, but also walked 16 batters.

The right-hander was 1-0 with a 6.14 ERA (7.1 IP, 5 ER) in seven appearances out of the Reds’ bullpen in 2025, and 0-0 with a 4.96 ERA (16.1 IP, 9 ER) in 12 appearances in 2024.

A native of Cuba, Zulueta joined the Mariners in a January trade with the Cincinnati Reds that sent minor league pitcher Dusty Revis to Cincinnati.

Zulueta made eight appearances out of the Mariners’ bullpen in spring training and generally pitched well. He struck out 10 batters, allowed three walks and six hits, and allowed only three runs in seven innings (3.86 ERA).

Armed with a 99-mph fastball, Zulueta gives the Cubs some bullpen depth in a season marred by pitching injuries.

Two Cubs relievers, veteran Shelby Miller and 25-year-old Porter Hodge, are out for the season following Tommy John surgery. Two others, Hunter Harvey (triceps inflammation) and Riley Martin (elbow strain) are on the 60-day injured list.
