The Los Angeles Angels are in no position to acquire talent for their Major League roster this season.
In fact, the Angels should be one of baseball's biggest sellers at this year's trade deadline.
Still, the AL West organization has its eyes set on the future, according to a recent report from The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon.
"The Angels, according to a person briefed on their pursuits, are interested in acquiring a young catcher," Rosenthal and Sammon wrote.
Currently, the Angels have backstop Logan O'Hoppe under contract through the 2028 season. He hasn't had the strongest season, hitting just .211/.275/.300 with just four home runs, along with a -0.6 bWAR in 72 games.
One team that could help the Angels in the catching department is the Chicago Cubs, per Rosenthal and Sammon.
"Owen Ayers, the Cubs’ No. 10 prospect according to The Athletic’s Keith Law, might qualify. Ayers, 25, started the season in High A and is now at Triple A," they wrote.

Chicago needs reinforcments for its rotation, and Angels starters Reid Detmers and Jose Soriano are two possible options for the Cubs.
"But the Cubs, canvassing the entire market for starters, potentially could line up with the Los Angeles Angels for righty José Soriano or lefty Reid Detmers as well," Rosenthal and Sammon added.
Given both teams' positional needs, the Cubs and Angels could work together on a trade or two at the deadline.
