Cubs' Dansby Swanson joins insane baseball history with Lou Gehrig, Jimmie Foxx, Joe DiMaggio and Mel Ott originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Dansby Swanson stepped to the plate with the bases loaded on Wednesday with the Chicago Cubs having long decided their game, already ahead by double-digits.
And then Swanson hit a grand slam, because of course he did. Right now, Swanson can't be stopped.
A day after hitting two home runs, Swanson hit three more on Wednesday, capped by the four-run blast:

Yes, he was helped on that occasion by facing a position player.
But it was in part because of Swanson that the Cubs were ahead by that much already anyway.
In fact, Swanson has been scorching hot for a while. He's the first player in 86 years to have 26 RBI in a 10-game span.
It's a mark even Babe Ruth never reached.
Those who did, according to ESPN's Jesse Rogers:
- Mel Ott in 1929
- Lou Gehrig in 1930
- Lou Gehrig in 1931
- Jimmie Foxx in 1933
- Joe DiMaggio in 1939
That Gehrig guy was pretty good.
That's also pretty much insane, though. It's an almost-impossible feat, and that's summed up by the fact that all the legends of the last 85 years of baseball haven't taken part.
But right now, Swanson is swinging like a legend. There's no telling how long it might keep up, but enjoy it while it lasts. We truly haven't seen anything like this in a long time.
