Before Alex Bregman signed a five-year, $175 million contract with the Chicago Cubs that includes a no-trade clause, the Boston Red Sox offered a similar contract without a no-trade clause.

Bregman was an integral part of Boston's clubhouse last season, but he's ready to move on from the details of the offseason negotiations.

USA Today's Bob Nightengale asked the two-time World Series champion if the Red Sox adding a no-trade clause to their offer would have made a difference.

Here's what Bregman had to say:

"It was more than just that... I just really don't want to get into that. "It's not worth it."

The Cubs are one of the favorites to win the NL Central and make a deep postseason push. Bregman is thrilled to have an opportunity to help the club win its first World Series title since 2016.

“I just hope to do my part in helping this team win," Bregman told Nightengale." Obviously, they already had a really good team and made a postseason run last year. Now, I hope to help them any way I can."

Bregman turns 32 next month and hit .273/.360/.462 with 18 home runs and a .821 OPS in 114 games last season. Reports indicate that the Detroit Tigers, Toronto Blue Jays, and Arizona Diamondbacksalso pursued the three-time All-Star.
