On Tuesday, the Chicago Cubs played spoiler in Tarik Skubal’s debut for the Los Angeles Dodgers. They grabbed a 5-1 victory to upset the Dodgers in the first of a three-game series, and Pete Crow-Armstrong, as per usual, was a thorn in the opposing team’s side.
All season long, Crow-Armstrong has been brilliant for the Cubs. He entered play on Tuesday with an OPS of .919, he’s been a menace on the basepaths, and he has been one of the best defensive outfielders in all of MLB, as expected. He is a true five-tool player who has erased the memory of his poor performance to end the 2025 campaign with each passing day, and he added to his tally on the year by going 2-4 from the plate in their win over the Dodgers.
Crow-Armstrong even drew plenty of deserved MVP chants from the Cubs faithful at Wrigley Field on Tuesday, and his outfield mate Nico Hoerner outlined a few reasons as to why the 24-year-old has earned his way to winning that award.

“I know we wouldn’t be where we are right now at the deadline and everything without what he did in the first half. A lot of us really struggled on the offensive side and there were straight-up stretches of the season he won games for us, flat-out, on both sides of the ball,” Hoerner told Jon Morosi after the game, via TNT Sports.
“What he’s done offensively has just been ridiculous. With the walks, stolen bases, the power, he beats you in every possible way. It’s been a joy to watch.”
The Wins Above Replacement (WAR) stat has looked kindly at Crow-Armstrong’s 2026 campaign. His contributions this season have been worth 7.3 fWAR thus far, and he’s leading all position players in that metric, and by a comfortable margin as well.
The Cubs star would be a deserving MVP winner, although Chicago has more important things in mind at the moment like strengthening their hold on a postseason spot.
