The fall-out from Barcelona’s La Liga defeat to Girona continues, with news that the VAR from the game is set to be sanctioned by the CTA.

According to AS, the VAR from the game at Montilivi – David Gálvez Rascón – will be suspended until further notice. The report adds that the CTA Technical Committee decided on Tuesday that the VAR should have intervened in the game for the foul on Jules Kounde before Fran Beltran’s late winner.

Girona star Claudio Echeverri was guilty of stamping on the defender’s foot and has already admitted the contact. “Yes, I stepped on Koundé’s foot, but I was running at speed and didn’t do it on purpose,” he told El Chiringuito. He went on to add: “If the referee had given it as a foul, I would have understood.”

The CTA are also set to sanction Daniel Jesús Trujillo who was part of the officiating team for Real Madrid’s win over Real Sociedad at the weekend.

AS report that he will be relegated to assistant VAR in his next match. He is being sanctioned because of an error in the award of a second penalty to Madrid for a foul on Vinicius. The CTA felt that the play was “difficult to interpret” and the match referee should have been called to review the play.
