These days, anyone arguing that Cristiano Ronaldo is on Lionel Messi's level is on an island. Both are undoubtedly two of the greatest soccer players ever, but the Argentine Messi has clearly separated himself from his Portuguese peer as he pursues an elusive men's World Cup repeat for his country, which would be the first in the tournament in over 60 years.

Still, there was a time when the Messi-Ronaldo "rivalry" had more heft to it. And it sure seems like Ronaldo still deeply cares about this very conversation.

His response, or lack thereof, to a question about Messi after Portugal's 5-0 win over Uzbekistan on Tuesday was telling. Ronaldo beckoned a reporter to ask something, but as soon as he heard Messi's name, he immediately turned his eyes and told someone else to ask a question. Man, how petty and childish.

Just be an adult and answer the question.

If there's any consolation for an obviously bitter Ronaldo, there's a chance his Portugal plays against Messi's Argentina later in this World Cup. Though, knocking out Argentina en route to a World Cup victory, where Ronaldo was also clearly Portugal's most impactful player, is probably the only way anyone reasonable outside of Ronaldo views this as a legitimate rivalry with the greatest soccer player ever again.
