The Boston Red Sox have gotten off to a bad start this year in all areas, including defensively. They've struggled in the field, entering play on Friday with the second-most errors and second-worst defensive efficiency in baseball.

Multiple players have had issues so far, including left fielder Roman Anthony. The 21-year-old has already committed two errors in seven games where he's played the field, tied for the most in baseball among all outfielders.

By comparison, Anthony made just one error in 52 defensive games as a rookie last year.

Anthony's also drawn negative attention for several poor throws that have cost the Red Sox games, leading Boston fans to wonder if something's wrong with him.

During his appearance on WEEI on Thursday, Craig Breslow discussed Anthony's shocking fielding woes.

"We've seen glimpses at times with the way that he approaches the ball and the effect that can have on his momentum and direction," Breslow said. "Huddy is a really good outfield coach. Roman is fully committed to doing the work. I think we're gonna look up here pretty shortly and look back at this as a blip."

Fortunately for the Red Sox, they already appear to have diagnosed the problem. Third base coach/outfield instructor Kyle Hudson believes Anthony's issues are mechanical rather than mental and stemming from his lower half, so hopefully they can get that ironed out soon.

It's not unusual to see players making mistakes this time of year. The good news is that Anthony has plenty of time to correct them and put them behind him.
