After tonight’s loss to the Colorado Rockies, the Boston Red Sox walked away from a series where they could’ve swept, and instead lost two out of three.

This Red Sox roster has some real stars on it, but it’s not a roster built to win. In fact, fans are calling it the worst Sox team of all time. And with former World Series manager Alex Cora fired months ago, only one person can take all the blame: Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow.

Since October of 2023 when Breslow was hired, the Sox have a record of 202-200. They’ve only had one winning season, which was last year, and this year is setting records for being bad.

Boston was supposed to be a major power this season, but after fumbling the offseason, Breslow set them up for failure.

Breslow had a great season last year, but he got rid of the reasons that made it good. He didn’t pay Alex Bregman, the leader of the team, and it ended up with him leaving Boston. He traded the previous franchise third baseman, Rafael Devers, because he believed Bregman was his successor.

On top of that, every pitcher that leaves Boston becomes much better. Walker Buehler, Dustin May, Kyle Harrison, and Nick Pivetta are all succeeding on their news teams, after they were mediocre with Boston. That speaks to his hiring of pitching coach Andrew Bailey, who was the only main coach to survive the coaching house cleaning in April..

According to MLB insider Robert Murray, Breslow will be fine for the rest of this season, but as soon as the offseason hits, his job is probably in jeopardy.

If Boston was smart, they would fire Breslow asap, so the new GM they bring in has ample time to look at the roster before the trade deadline, and decide how they want to play Boston’s future.

If Boston can’t get out of this rut, which Breslow thinks they can but fans don’t, then that could speed up the timeline. Only time will tell, and hopefully main owner John Henry and the rest of Boston ownership makes a decision soon.
