The Dallas Cowboys, like several other franchises, should be in the market for a veteran edge rusher ahead of the 2026-27 season.
The Cowboys can’t afford to waste another high-powered offense due to lackluster defensive efforts, and luckily for the five-time Super Bowl champions, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox has a wise suggestion they should consider moving forward.
Knox believes Dallas should trade for a former Philadelphia Eagles 11-sack star edge rusher who won a Super Bowl in 2024-25.
“The Dallas Cowboys have overhauled their edge rotation, trading for Rashan Gary before drafting Malachi Lawrence and Jaishawn Barham,” Knox wrote Saturday. “They should make one more move to solidify the group and make a play for Arizona Cardinals edge-rusher Josh Sweat.”
“Sweat isn't necessarily on the trade block. However, he was absent at the start of OTAs, and, according to Cardinals insider Kyle Odegard, is ‘not particularly happy’ in Arizona. Adding Sweat would help complete the Cowboys' edge-rushing rebuild.”
Sweat’s eventful seven-year stint with the Eagles helped put him on the map in the big leagues. The FSU product recorded 267 tackles, 43 sacks, and seven forced fumbles in Philadelphia, earning a Pro Bowl nod in 2021-22 and winning a Super Bowl with the franchise in 2024-25.
In his first season with the Cardinals (this past year), Sweat totaled 30 tackles, 12 sacks (career high), and 4 forced fumbles (career high), showcasing that he can be impactful in a new environment. As Kristopher noted, the 29-year-old isn’t a surefire trade candidate, but perhaps a game-changing trade offer from the Cowboys could soon change that.
