Nine new draft picks and a handful of undrafted free agents... and the Cowboys are already window shopping once again. With the shortfall at wide receiver apparent to everyone, Jerry Jones admits that the team's options are still open when it comes to adding a weapon. And there's one name that's reportedly "building interest" inside the facility... one that already comes with a bit of a checkered past in Dallas. Of course, it would all be a moot point if just one thing had gone differently Thursday night. We'll tell you about that, plus the undrafted wide receiver who already has an inside connection with the Cowboys coaching staff.

Meanwhile, we're still compiling draft grades, but we're also scoring the draft picks based on not the players but the process used to select them. We check in on Dak Prescott's hamstring, we look at 2026's compensatory pick haul, and we tally up the take-home pay for this year's draft class. All that, plus a look at which draft picks could be starters... and which current Cowboys are suddenly cut candidates now that the draft has brought new talent to town.

The Cowboys owner confirmed that the team may be looking at adding a veteran wide receiver post-draft. "It's a year-round deal, but we don't have to be through at receiver in any way," Jones explained. "We could, if the opportunity comes up, if we want to, can address this in free agency."

There is reportedly "building interest" in bringing Amari Cooper back to Dallas after the team chose not to use a draft pick on a wide receiver. Now that the comp window has closed, doing so would not impact 2026 draft pick allocations. Cooper would be the strongest WR2 candidate the Cowboys have had in some time... maybe since he was traded away in 2022.

The Cowboys had to go to Plan B when Carolina selected the Arizona wide receiver with the No. 8 overall pick. It would have been a very different draft for Dallas, who ended up not addressing the wide receiver position at all through seven full rounds of picks.

He didn't get drafted over the weekend, but wide receiver Traeshon Holden found his way to Dallas just the same... and already has a unique connection to the team. His position coach at Oregon was Junior Adams, who is now the Cowboys' WR coach. Holden also got some mentoring from former Bengals star TJ Houshmandzadeh, who had played with Adams at Oregon State. He'll now get his chance to make the Cowboys roster as an undrafted free agent.

The Cowboys are in line to receive two fifth-round picks in 2026 for the losses of DE DeMarcus Lawrence and CB Jourdan Lewis. The losses of Brandin Cooks and Chauncey Golston were nullified by the acquisitions of Dante Fowler and Robert Jones. If the Cowboys release Jones, there's a possibility the club would earn an additional sixth-round pick.

Prescott says he feels good and has been seen working out at a local high school with CeeDee Lamb. But the Cowboys brass isn't ready to state he'll definitely be ready for OTAs on May 19. “Just as you would expect. We’re going to be very cautious and conservative, but if you left it up to him, he’d be out here throwing to them, ready to play the Giants on Monday night,” Stephen Jones said. “But obviously we’re going to monitor him and help manage him and make sure he makes good decisions when it comes to pushing it because he wants to go out there and be rolling yesterday.”

Grading brand new draft picks based on playing potential is really just guesswork. But evaluating the quantifiable decision-making process that brought each prospect to town is another matter. Booker was taken earlier than most expected, at a position of low need for the Cowboys, but there is a positive bonus for character. His selection scores a 71 out of 100. Donovan Ezeiruaku's pick? A 91. Same with Shavon Revel, Jr. See how they did with each pick and how the grades dipped as the draft went on.

As prescribed by the CBA, the Cowboys' nine draft picks will split $12.5 million as rookies and earn more than a combined $65 million over the life of their contracts. Booker's deal is obviously the largest, at $22.55 million total, with a $13 million signing bonus. Seventh-rounder Tommy Akingbesote will earn $4.3 million over his four-year deal, with a signing bonus of $103,000.

Impact: Projecting roles for each of the Cowboys' nine draft picks :: The Mothership

Several of the new Cowboys look to have an inside track to a heavy rotational or even starting role as rookies. Some, like linebacker Shemar James, will likely need to make an impression through special teams play. Akingbesote and Jay Toia will probably compete head-to-head in camp; Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah will try to stand out in a very crowded running back room.

An influx of four new running backs could spell the end of the Deuce Vaughn experiment in Dallas. Damone Clark may be on similarly borrowed time after two veteran linebackers were signed before the draft and Shemar James was taken in the fifth round. And Hunter Luepke may not find the same fullback love from Brian Schottenheimer as he did under Mike McCarthy.

Math be Mathin': Cowboys see 3x Tyler as exponential OL improvement, not single addition :: Cowboys Wire

Tyler Booker goes against the grain of the Cowboys' typical first-round pick, as he's not considered an overly athletic player. But his selection shows that the club believes in what he can bring to the offensive line as a whole, more so than his own individual skills. He really is already seen as the eventual leader of the group.
