The Dallas Cowboys enter 2026 with arguably the best receiver room in the NFC East, featuring CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, and second-year target Ryan Flournoy. Now that A.J. Brown is no longer part of the Philadelphia Eagles' receiver room, Jerry Jones’ offense will face little to no competition within the division.

In this situation, the only thing Cowboys fans should want is for their division rivals to keep making avoidable mistakes. The Washington Commanders are about to make a big one, as reports name them the overwhelming favorite to sign Brandon Aiyuk

Why Aiyuk-to-Washington scenario is exactly what Cowboys fans want​

According to NFL insider Jason La Canfora, the San Francisco 49ers are prepared to release the 28-year-old receiver after a bitter two-year saga that included a torn ACL in Oct. 2024. And it permanently fractured last year in November when San Francisco voided Aiyuk’s contract guarantees because he skipped his ACL rehab.

Recently, Aiyuk posted a 90-second Instagram clip aimed at the 49ers, saying, "The truth is they're scared," and "They are going to say, 'Oh yes, BA did this, BA did that.' Allegedly. Allegedly." It seems he no longer wants to be a Commander, either.

Washington needs a secondary receiver opposite Terry McLaurin, and Aiyuk brings name recognition since they won't bring Deebo Samuel back. But his profile has significant holes. He tore his ACL and MCL just months after signing a four-year, $120 million extension and has not played a single snap since.

So, if the Commanders actually sign him, it will provide much-needed comedic relief for Dallas Nation, given the history. Aiyuk is a good player, and he had a great season, but that's a two-year-old story.
