North Carolina baseball is vying for its first-ever national championship in the 2026 College World Series, sending thousands of Tar Heel fans to Charles Schwab Field Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska.
Among those fans in attendance of UNC’s Game 3 on June 22 against Oklahoma was country music star, Eric Church. The 11-time Grammy nominated singer has been a lifelong fan of North Carolina, despite graduating from Appalachian State University. With history on the brink of being made, he made it a point to be among the fans wearing Carolina blue and white in Omaha.
The "Springsteen" singer recently received an honorary degree for the UNC Class of 2026 where he delivered the commencement speech for the graduating class on May 9. The speech was a guitar-driven commencement using the six strings of a guitar as a metaphor for the pillars of life to come for the UNC graduates. Church closed out the speech with a song titled “Carolina."
Now with the Tar Heels on the brink of possibly snagging their first championship, Church will be among the many cheering them on in this winner-takes-all matchup. North Carolina’s journey to the last two teams standing in the World Series was a grueling one, clawing their way back into the series in Game 2.
The Tar Heels 6-2 victory over the Sooners forced a Game 3.
