The LSU Tigers football season is inching closer, now down to double digits on the countdown clock. Kickoff against the Clemson Tigers is now just 98 days away.
As we continue to look back at the history of the Bayou Bandits to celebrate and prepare heading into the first game, there is also the matter of getting to know the current-day players.
Here is a look at the past and present of No. 98 at LSU:
The Tiger brought Woods in this past offseason from the South Alabama Jaguars.
The Decatur, Ala. native was a three-star recruit out of high school and ended up staying home and going to the South Alabama Jaguars as an EDGE rusher.
He has played there for the past two years, but didn’t really contribute much. It’s no surprise that he hit the portal, though some may be shocked he ended up somewhere like the Tigers.
With most of his production coming last year, Woods picked up 12 total tackles with one sack and one TFL.
He remained a three-star DL as a transfer player, and LSU brought him in mostly as a depth piece. It’s unclear just how much of a factor he’ll play in their game plan, as they added a ton of talent into the defensive line.
Along with signing one of the best interior recruiting classes ever, the Tigers also added established veterans like Stephiylan Green and Malik Blocton. Woods is going to have a tough path to playing time this season.
Many LSU fans know very well who Verge Ausberry as the current athletic director, but he started out as a linebacker in the late 80s. He’s had about three decades at the school between his playing career and then behind the scenes as a “front office” member.
Now he’s running the sports programs. He was the easy choice to take over for full-time after Scott Woodward left, because of his history with the school.
