In 2022, the Philadelphia Eagles wanted to ensure they'd land Georgia's Jordan Davis in the first round for their defensive line, so Howie Roseman traded future draft capital to the Houston Texans to move up two spots.

Last season, Nick Caserio and Roseman worked out a deal twice, eventually leading to the selections on USC safety Calen Bullock in Round 3 and Ohio State tight end Cade Stover in Round 4.

And earlier this offseason, Roseman and Caserio struck a deal for a third time, leading to former first-round pick Kenyon Green to be shipped off to the defending Super Bowl champions in exchange for do-it-all defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson.

Could another deal be in the works ahead of Thursday night?

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, both the Texans and Eagles seem eager to make trades in Round 1, though it's unclear if either team is willing to move up or down depending on the asking price. With only seven picks in this class and a willingness to move up regardless of asking price, Philadelphia could fall for a player who must be a long-term player, thus leading to a phone call down to NRG Stadium.

"[The Eagles] have added bargaining power should they try to trade for available veterans -- a certain possibility during the draft -- or if they decide in a less-likely scenario that they want to move up," Schefter wrote.

Caserio, who said the Texans would evaluate everything, isn't afraid to swing big or settle for more picks rather than stay pat. History also tends to agree.

"During the four drafts he has run, the Texans have made a remarkable 22 trades either shortly before or during the draft, including one with the Vikings on March 15 last year that netted Houston the 2025 second-round pick Caserio turned into wide receiver Stefon Diggs," Schefter wrote.

In 2023, the Texans shocked everyone with their early selections of the eventual Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year selections.

"During the 2023 draft, they made eight trades, including the move up for edge rusher Will Anderson Jr. at No. 3 overall. During the 2022 draft, they made seven," Schefter wrote. "During the 2021 draft, they made three. If history is any guide, the Texans -- who have seven picks this year -- will be moving all around the board again this weekend."

Caserio loves to have draft capital, something currently missing for the Texans entering Thursday night. Houston owns four picks in the top 100, but it's without a fourth and sixth-round selection, making it challenging to move up early on Day 3 without giving away premier talent.

The Texans seem interested in drafting one of the two Ohio State linemen, but neither could be worth the No. 25 overall pick. If that's the case, a trade down with Philadelphia seven spots in exchange for a third- and fourth-round pick might end up benefitting all parties.

Houston owns seven picks entering the draft. Expect that number to change before the final selection mid-Saturday afternoon.
