A popular pick for the Indianapolis Colts on Day 2 of many mock drafts is UCLA linebacker Carson Schwesinger. However, perhaps the big question right now is, will he be available at pick No. 45?
Tom Pelissero of NFL Network put together his list of 'five potential surprise first-rounders' in this year's draft, and included on that list was Schwesinger.
"He can run, cover and play all three downs. His instincts and character are pluses," wrote Pelissero. "Schwesinger isn't as versatile as Alabama's Jihaad Campbell, who also has flashed edge-rush ability. But with several teams near the bottom of Round 1 needing an off-ball linebacker, Schwesinger could find his NFL home sooner than many expect."
It's easy to see why Schwesinger is a popular pick for the Colts. For one, they have a need at linebacker as they search for a new starter to line up next to Zaire Franklin, and Schwesinger could come in and compete for that playing time right away with Jaylon Carlies.
In addition to that, Schwesinger's well-rounded skill set makes him a good fit for Lou Anarumo's versatile defensive scheme, not to mention that he would bring an added--and needed--coverage presence to the position.
The need is there for the Colts, the fit very much makes sense, but will Schwesinger be on the board when the Colts are picking in Round 2?
