There's an old saying about grass being greener elsewhere. NFL players know as well as anyone that sometimes, what looks appealing from a distance can feel very different once you arrive. When Josh Sweat left the Philadelphia Eagles after helping deliver a Super Bowl championship, the move made all the sense in the world. It was easy to assume grass might be greener.

He joined the Arizona Cardinals and reunited with former defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon, signing a massive four-year, $76 million contract. He joined a franchise that appeared ready to make him a centerpiece of its defensive identity. From the outside looking in, it seemed like the ideal next chapter for a player who had become a fan favorite in Philadelphia. Now, however, an interesting wrinkle has surfaced.

Has Josh Sweat tired of the Cardinals already?

Cardinals reporter Kyle Odegard recently offered a comment that has naturally raised eyebrows after Sweat's absence from Arizona's OTA sessions. While this portion of the offseason program remains voluntary and absences alone rarely justify concern, Odegard suggested there may be more to the story than scheduling conflicts or a lingering physical issue.

“Don’t know the exact reason for the absence, but I’ve been hearing for a while that Josh Sweat is not particularly happy in Arizona.”

That's certainly intriguing, especially when considering how productive Sweat was last season. He posted a career-high 12 sacks, validating Arizona's financial investment and proving he could thrive outside of Philadelphia's system. Usually, that type of performance quiets any concerns. If dissatisfaction exists despite that level of success, the frustration likely extends beyond what happens between the lines.

It's also worth acknowledging how much has changed. Familiarity is gone to some degree as the Jonathan Gannon era is over. The connection that helped make Arizona such a logical destination no longer exists, as Gannon was dismissed on January 5.

Coaching turnover changes everything for veteran players who signed on because of familiarity, trust, and a shared vision. What looked stable a year ago can feel entirely different now. That isn't to say this is the only reason for dissatisfaction, if any exists, but it could be part of the reason, right?

Before Eagles fans start crafting reunion theories, let's pump the brakes. Philadelphia has spent the better part of two offseasons restructuring its edge-rushing plans, and bringing back an expensive veteran contract doesn't exactly align with the current blueprint. That said, it's hard not to find this development fascinating given Sweat's history with the Eagles and the affection many fans still have for him.

Leaving a championship contender for a larger paycheck is a business decision most players would make without hesitation. Still, if this report holds any truth, it serves as another reminder that money and sack totals don't always guarantee satisfaction.

Sometimes, players don't fully appreciate what they had until they've moved on from it. Philadelphia offered Josh Sweat something every NFL player chases: organizational stability, championship expectations, a familiar locker room, and meaningful football in January.

Arizona offered a bigger paycheck and what appeared to be a fresh opportunity. Still, if the whispers about dissatisfaction hold any truth, this may be another reminder that not every upgrade on paper feels like one in real life. Time will tell, but this might be a story to monitor from a distance.
